| Christmas Greetings!!! I was wondering what kinds of hot peppers you have grown that would be considered extremely hot. Hubby likes hot peppers, and I can't seem to find one that's hot enough. Thanks!

Denise Habaneras if he doesn’t think they are hot then maybe you should check to see if he is from the planet Earth. (LOL) I have found that if you keep them a little on the water starved side they really get hot. Check TGS they have a nice pepper selection too. Worth

I have also grown the orange habeneros but I find them to be so hot that they are only good for cooking with. Only a special person can eat them raw. Greg

The orange colored habaneros. Plenty hot, although I seem to recall one called Red Savinia or Red Savina or something like that. It is supposedly hotter. Have you asked this on the Hot Pepper forum? Those folks will be able to help you. They really know their stuff. Mary

This heat scale might have information that will be helpful.

I would agree that the habanero (orange) is excessively hot, never had the Red Savina, but, from others, I understand it to be hotter. How could one tell? I think a lot has to do with how they are grown. i once had some Jalapeno grown by my uncle that were incredibly hot, nearly inedible. We figure it was a combo of soil and no water that intesified the heat. I have had a salsa made from habanero, garlic and onion, terrible, terrible mistake. Bob

Thanks so much for all the responses. I've grown habaneros and they are almost hot enough, but not quite! I, too, wonder what planet he is from!!! The website for Uncle Steves is great. I hope I can get some seeds for the Red Savina though they aren't listed in the online catalog. I e-mailed them to ask.

Capsicum chinense Cumari from Brazil. Now this one really will blow your socks off. Made some into a paste one year and found putting a quarter tablespoon in a pot of mince made it too hot to eat. Regards. Rosco

There is a rating call scoville units. I believe Jalepenos are 5000 and orange Habeneros are 30000. The Red Habeneros are supposed to be 100000. That of course is if I have remembered rightly ;-) Greg
