They grow quite well in pots, these green mystery PL plants.

Ah, another fan of straw mulch. Sure makes a difference. What the pot size on those?

Each pot takes exactly 30 litres of potting mix. I think there are 4.5 litres per gallon. So I say 7 gallon. Gotta have that mulch. It's the difference between not watering for a week and having to water daily.

Grub,
How many maters do you get off of each plant in those pots ? ~ Tom
ps. they look great ~

Tom,
I get roughly half production compared with those plants in the ground, except in the case of cherry tomatoes. So two in pots equals one in the ground.

Those indeterminates in pots are also higher maintenance, ie, watering and securing. But my mystery in PL is far from an unruly plant. In a pot in seems to top out about 5ft.

I just grow about a dozen in pots in spots where I would otherwise have an excess oof something, be it grass, parsley or whatever.

Cheers, Grub.

so as an estimate - how many fruits per plant per pot ? ~ Tom

RE: My Mystery Again

Hi Tom,

This is pie in the sky stuff, but what the heck.

I'd say five at worst and 18 on average and 30 with a good variety. A cherry like my Sweet Bites (not a great taste IMHO) sets hundreds.

It's all a matter of the weather. If it's hot and humid and the root balls are stressed then our babies aren't going to set fruit. If it's nice and mild for a week or so then I can find a truss of flowers where every one has set.

Fruits will be smaller than those in the ground.

Maybe an argument for staggering your plantings. But don't shy away from growing them in pots. Kimberly is just so rewarding for me this year. It's a must-grow.

RE: My Mystery Again

I am def. going to grow in large buckets this year ~ last year (for me) was strickly ground plants - but due to "over-load" of seeds, I want to try as many varieties as possible ~
so without space ? buckets come in to play ~ I was just curious on what kind of "drop-off" in production would occur if buckets were the option ; I also wanted to know about your tomato (GMG) and how it grew in pots ... I heard it could go both ways - lots ? or less than normal in pots ~

I did read you post about "Kim" .... sounds pretty good ~ thanks for the info ...

oh and also, if "GMG" works out , I def. want to give it a try ... from the pics they look ??? aweeessssoooommmmme !!!! ~ Tom
