Fooling mother nature

Had major bird pecking problem last year--posted the sorry results. Some attributed to lack of water due to drought which sounds a definate possibility.

Anyway trying a red decoy as they must have developed a taste for tomatoes as they are sitting on cages waiting for them to ripe. (they won't touch a green one!)

So for so good--no pecked toms yet. ((one other possible explanation--those pretty looking toms are Celebrity grown for my mother. First time I ever grew one and did not like it at all --may be the weather though. A much better hybrid for us is Better Boy)) Last year they ate nothing but heirlooms and may be spoiled.

Well, the experiment failed. Bird pecked tomato right next to the tomato decoy. Maybe I needed a more true-to-life plastic tomato and put out 20 or so of them.

Damn! Hell and damnation. I was already to score some pomagranets. I liked the idea. I have lost too many Mountain Princess and New Big Dwarf. They like the pinks better than the reds. Looks like a huge bird netting exercise :(
