Tomato season meets Dungeness Crab season.

A warmer than usual season has left us with tomatoes well into December. Even with the crabbers refusing to go out for the first two weeks of the season in a price dispute, we still have a few toms to go with the crabs. These were supposed to be Opalka but as you can see by ol’ Dungey’s claws, not. They were one of the smallest paste tomatoes I’ve grown.

ol’ Dungey doesn't look like he's any happier about those maters than you are, LOL!

Tom, I'm envious. One of the best times ever was when several of us put our boats into Tomales Bay for crabbing. A friends dad, who knew what he was doing and had traps, helped us catch more crabs than we could cook and eat there on the beach. Sooo good!

ol' Dungey has more on his mind than those tomatoes. Actually, to be honest, he's not thinking about much there. He was already in that ocean in the sky>

"ol’ Dungey doesn't look like he's any happier about those maters than you are, LOL!"

-- hmmmm, maybe I should have phrased that a little differently, but I didn't expect what I posted to be be taken quite so literally. Since I too have spent a fair amount of time catching and cooking seafood in RI, NJ, and FL, I assumed that EVERYONE could see that he'd been for his last swim, probably in that large pot that he's perched on.

So maybe it was a rather silly comment to post, but even so, I still like the mournful "Oh, sh!t" expression on ol’ Dungey's "face". Someone needs to come up with a good cartoon caption for that pic.

Great combo! T'is crabbing season Down Under. I'll be trapping after Christmas. Pack the gas burner and pot in the boat's bilge and boil a feast on the beach. Hopefully, something red and round won't be too far away. Best wishes crabbers.
