Cedar Mulch and Insects

Posted by archerb 8 (My Page) on

Back in the old days, cedar chests were used to store clothes in, especially wool clothing because it repelled moths. One of the biggest pests to a tomato garden is caterpillars, which are basically baby moths.

Will cedar mulch around my tomato plants repel moths, and thus caterpillars like the tomato horn worm?

I had cedar chips in my garden last year and had quite a few bugs as well. YMMV.

re, RJ:

Yeah, but imagine how many bugs you would have had if you had regular mulch! :-)

Of course, I'm kidding. Thanx. I'll probably stick with the cedar anyway as it cheap at our local HD.
