Sylvia's organic spraying regimen?

I've searched and searched and can't find the info on what she uses exactly. Can anyone help? I first saw it mentioned here in the tomato forum so figured I'd ask here too.

Thanks!

teeandcee, is it this Silvia-with-an-i whose user-name is whgille?

That's the best I could find. Since others seem to be using her mix, perhaps you could search by her user-name or maybe ask on that forum what the proportions are.

Or are you talking about Sylvia Welke and her regimen of spraying with compost teas? She published a research paper back in the late 1990's on the use of various types of organic and compost teas to be used as crop sprays. It comes up for discussion over on the Organic Gardening forum now and then.

If so you can find the details about the various recipes in the link below and in various OFRF.org publications.

Teeandcee - Just in case that you are talking about me,lol, I have to tell you that I am not an expert but in my small garden I always get big harvests. Every season no matter what I am successful. I only use organic and depending on what problem I have. I keep a supply of neem, serenade, spinosad and Dr Bonner's peppermint soap and only use it when I see a problem. Occasionally, I have tried other organic products like Green Cure and Actinovate, I stopped using those when I saw no big results. The most important thing is to start with good seedlings, that is why I start my own. If you are in zone 9b like I am, my tomato plants are ready for the garden.

If you are in Florida, come to the Florida forum and ask any question that you may have.

Hi guys. I didn't know there were so many Slvia regimens, lol. I just saw it mentioned and figured I'd asked since I could find nothing with a search of the subject matter or Sylvia's username (above Sylvia). I'll check out that link, thanks Dave.

Sylvia, I've been admiring your awesome pics for weeks now. I live within 10 minutes of you so I'm pretty excited about how well your garden does.

Hi Teeandcee, I am Silvia- with-an-i,lol. Our gardens in Florida are very different than other parts of the country, I would never fertilize my tomato plants with sprays of any kind due to foliar diseases due to our humidity. If I use compost which I do use, I put in the soil.

Thank you for your compliments, if you live close to me you are invited for the April garden party/swap that we have at my house, I will put the details in the Florida forum close to the date, they are a lot of fun and a lot of very skilled gardeners come, we share food, seeds and interesting plant talk.

Ooo, thank you, Silvia-With-an-I. :D I'll be there. Absolutely beautiful garden and pics!

I grew up near Gainesville (lived in Missouri for a while too where you just drop stuff in the soil...yes, soil...and it thrives--of course digging/dynamiting in rock-infested clay makes one appreciate our nice sand) so gardening further south is a whole new and exciting experience for me.

Silvia-With-an-I, how do you control leaf footed bugs? They are the bane of my garden, here in Houston zone 9a.

And, do you find any problems if the temps drop below 50 this time of year? Does it hurt your tomato production?

Teeandcee - I am looking forward to meet you, I will post all the details about the party...

Eahamel - I think of my garden as an outdoor room and I try to keep it as clean as possible, a couple of years ago I had the problem with the stinkbugs and I used to go on patrol:) every morning and evening and got rid of them with gloves and paper wet with alcohol. The past season I only saw a few. You have to learn to identify them when they are young and get rid of them before they become an infestation.

And you just ask the right question today, it is cold! and if you notice all my tomatoes are in pots, not only because the nematodes but because I can move them to a warm location when we have weather like today and tomorrow. I will keep them in the porch till the weather gets better as soon as next week.

Looking forward for a good tomato season!

Thanks! I envy your harvest. Wow! It looks like it will be cold off and on this week, so today I'm transplanting my tomatoes from 4" pots to gallons so they can grow while waiting for warmer weather. It's 39 right now, at 8:19 am.
