Hello, I'm new to this forum and I have a question I hope you can help me with. I need to know what tomatoes are nematode and disease tolerant and where is the best place to buy them??

Thanks for your help
Marsha

Welcome Marsha, I see you just registered here today.

Could you share with us where you garden, as in which state and if you know without doubt that there are problems with Root Knot Nematodes when plants are grown inground?

I ask only b'c RKN's are a problem in only certain areas of the US.

And are you also asking where can buy plants, as opposed to seeds? Do you mean locally, when you tell us where you are, or a place to buy them that isn't local?

Carolyn,
I live in Florida, very hot and humid here. I want disease resistant plants to buy either online or at a local store.

Thanks
Marsha

If you want to know where to buy plants locally don't you think it would be a good idea to say what town you live in? Florida is a big state. If the letter N follows the name of the plant it has been tested and found to be nematode resistant. Some heirloom tomatoes may also be nematode resistant, but since you can't get a plant patent on an heirloom no one is going to pay for the testing.

Marsha, there are Root Knot Nematodes in some areas of FL but I'm wondering if that is the only disease you have problems with.

My FL tomato growing friends usually have problems with other systemic diseases such as Fusarium and others and almost everyone everywhere has problems with the common foliage diseases and for the latter there are no varieties, hybrid or open pollinated (OP) that have any significant tolerance to those.

I'm just trying to get a fuller picture of your disease and critter problems b'c there are so many for FL growers and that way it would make it easier for folks here to make more appropriate suggestions.

Carolyn
