Silvia, this is a new thread picking up on your comments in the thread below. You have a pic of your roses growing in pots. I've always thought they needed larger pots than that; how do you keep them happy and productive with their roots stuffed into such a small pot? I'm planting 2 or 3 in 25 gallon tree pots. Do you use new soil every planting season?

Eahamel - You can always find me in the Florida forum if you need to ask me any question. This forum is just for tomatoes... About your question on the roses and the pots, in the pics below I have begonias in pots and in the box I have succulents. I had them for a few years and I probably should add more soil when it gets warmer, one is just so big that I put it in a small table. The only roses that I have are planted in the ground, a garden friend gave me 2 small Louise Philippe and those are doing really well on a trellis in the fence. They are few of the ones that don't ever need spraying for disease and look good all year round. Silvia

Oops, my mistake! I meant to say TOMATOES but obviously had roses on my mind, since I grow a lot of them, too. And, I just found out that if veggies are grown in pots that have BPA, they will take it up and keep it. This bothers me a lot.

Eahamel, lol about the roses... My tomatoes are growing in pots about 14 inches tall, I put them in spots where I have straw as a mulch and some of the roots grow in the soil, by then the plant is strong and nematodes don't affect them. I like to use any material for pots that is lightweight because clay is just to heavy to move. I have been growing tomatoes like this for many years. Grow bags are good too like smarpots if you can get them. My tomatoes in the porch today after the the freezing night. Silvia
