I planted a Mr. Stripey a few days ago. When I got up yesterday, he had been decapitated ! A weed wacker from the lawn guy ? A possum ? Anyhow, now he has no leaves, just a 6 inch stalk. Will he grow ? I put him in a pot, and will watch him, but I am curious if anyone knows. I put a new Mr. Stripey in, and put lots of short wire fence around the cage and a roof of wire too in case it was a bird.

The larger and stronger the root system, the more likely the plant will recover -- though it will take time.

It may recover but I'd put it out of its misery and replant. You'll lose precious time and this is a variety prone to stop producing in hot summer weather. In the meantime you should do a bit of investigation work so it doesn't reoccur.
