Most of my tomatoes are up to the fourth rung on the big round tomato cages. I have been pinching off flowers to let the plants get bigger. At what point should I start keeping the flowers ? Coastal SoCal 3 miles inland. Mr Stripey, Sun Gold, Millions of Cherries, Brandywine, Cherokee Purple, Carmelo. Thanks

I leave them be. They will either produce fruit or drop blooms.

Thanks robeb, that is what I have decided to do ! Good Call.

I don't remove flowers either. With such a short growing season, will take any blossoms I can get. A ripe June tomato sets a positive tone for the whole season.

| Before transplanting out, and at that point the seedlings are 6-9 inches tall, I used to take of all buds and blossoms, and that b'c you want all plant energy to go into making a great root structure as well as good stems and branches, keeping the plant in what's called the vegetative cycle before letting it go into the sexual cycle of blossom formation, fruit set and maturation. And that b/c energy is diverted to the sexual cycle at the expense of the vegetative cycle, But if I had plants as big as yours are already, I'd just let them do what they're going to do and not worry about it. | My tomatoes just reached a foot tall and have a lot of un open buds. So I can leave them on the plants. |
