Those look like mighty healthy eggplants. If you're going to keep them in pots, they'll need about a 5 gal container each. In any case, don't just leave them crowded in one pot; they either need repotting or setting out.

Seriously eggplants? Yeah!!!! I can't remember ever planting them, but I am willing to give them some space and a bit of time to develop. If there's even a small chance they become something edible, I'm willing to set them out in an irrigated area. Will keep you posted--thanks everyone!

The second picture is questionable to but the rest most probably are eggplants. NOT tomatoes, definitely. Eggplant, pepper, tomato seeds are very similar in shape and sizes. But it is amazing to have them germinate and grow this size, by themselves, by this time, in zone 8 outside. Eggplant seeds are the most demanding when it comes to the soil temperature, more than peppers and much much more than tomatoes.Unless you had the containers in greenhouse or somewhere? |

I have chickens who give me awesome manure and add quite a bit of great nutrition to the compost pile....these sprung up in my wintersowing milk cartons. I re-used some older soil that had been sifted with new compost and planted with cukes....and my cucumbers died because of a unexpected freeze here in the CA Bay Area. Then I just left the jugs alone and up popped these! I transferred them to a raised bed thinking they *might* be "something". I hope hope hope I get eggplants :) Thanks everyone!

There's one with the obvious eggplant foliage, but the others look like they could easily be the weed... American nightshade (especially the first picture).
