| I planted about 6 Tomato seedlings about 10 days ago but we had a bad frost this past week with ice coating everything! Now all the leaves have shriveled up and the smaller branches look severely wilted. Should I just start over and get new seedlings or will they make a comeback? |
Follow-Up Postings:

| I would say that you planted tomatoes too early for your climate. Call your local extension (Rutgers) office for best planting dates in your particular location. Tomatoes are not cold hardy. |
|
| I am in New Jersey too. You are way too early to plant anything in the ground. There is enough time if you start seeds again this weekend but do not plant out until about the 3rd week of May to be safe! |
|
| Yes, you will have to replace them. Then wait to plant them out until you find out the proper planting zone (New Jersey has 5 totally different zones ranging from 5b to 7b) and only 7b could safely plant out now rather than 10 days ago. Dave |

| I think you will have to replace them. Tomatoes are tropical plants and cannot stand frost. But IF you really want to try and save the ones you have, see what wilts the next couple days and snip that off. You may get regrowth from the remaining plant. But I'd go with new ones. Sometimes cold stunts tomatoes the whole season. |

| It all depend on how bad the frost bite was. I think it is worth to baby them for a while and see what happens. Chances are that they might bounce back. Probably, by the time you read this post you've already determined the fate of your plants. |
