I have a similar situation where half of my garden area only gets partial sun, due to shade trees. I have found that some of the early varieties such as Russian types can do pretty well in partial sun, especially when we hit the "dog-days" of Summer. I have actually read posts from others who claim their tomatoes in partial sun do better than ones in full sun when it really gets hot. I would recommend Stupice as one variety you may want to consider.

Stupice is one that does ok with less than optimum sun.

How muh full sun would you say it gets? 6-8 is fine. I've even done wlel with 5.

I'm in NJ and have grown Roma and Steak Sandwich with about 4-5 hours sun a day, tops.

I'm way down in north Texas, but I have spot that gets maybe 5 hours a day facing north. Many varieties have failed or had extremely low yield in this spot. Last year my only non-heirloom plantings were 2 Early Girls in my shady garden. By golly if they didn't produce like crazy the entire summer, through the fall and finally froze in November with dozens of fruit on the vine.

I second the recommendation of Stupice. I've grown it for two years on a corner that gets about six hours of direct light and then complete shade. The variety still produces abundant tomatoes. Of course, Stupice really likes my climate.
