I have my small tomato seedlings planted and got decent amount of rain. In general should i now water much less and wait till soil drys out which could be some days (pretty decent size planter) or should i always keep the soil real moist? whats the rule of thumb for watering. dont want to ruin growth if always to wet, nor the opposite if wait to long for rains to dry out.
also applies to my peppers etc. basically need to know what a good gauge is for watering intervals especially if it rained recently.

The worst gauge for watering is going by the surface of the soil - always leads to over-watering. And the best gauge for knowing when to water is your finger stuck deep in the soil down to the root level. If it is cool or damp no water is needed.

The ultimate goal is consistent soil moisture. Not "real moist" and not dry.

PS: edited to add - when in doubt don't water. Most people tend to over-water anyway but over-watering is more harmful for the plant than under-watering is.
