Did it say "Heirloom" on the package ?
Otherwise you might not get the same by planting seeds from them.

A few years back, I grew a Campari F2 vine from a store tomato seed. The fruit matched my memory of the original Campari tomatoes from the store.

Yeah, right. I suspect a lot of seeds/seedlings sold as HYBRID are actually hybridized OP. By saying that it is "HYBRID" most won't attempt to save seeds from it for re planting. Even the parents of a hybrid must have been decent tomatoes, anyway.

No it didn't say "Heirloom" on the package. It did say greenhouse grown, so I figure it's a hybrid.

I'm just going to grow it for giggles and see what I get. I've got some seed fermenting now.

Go for it. As Seysonn said, even if it's a hybrid its parents must have been pretty decent tomatoes. A couple of years ago I grew seeds from some store-bought cantaloupe and honeydew and they turned out fine.

I had a volunteer last year that I am pretty sure was a tomato on the vine from the grocery store.

It was neglected, in a bad spot, and it produced very well. Better tasting than the TOTV fresh. I used it for soup and it was just fine for that.
