Here's another photo.

That's all exposure damage - wind, sun scorch, perhaps some cold exposure. Winds and sun can do that overnight, especially if the plant wasn't properly hardened off first.

Usually they recover if the damage isn't extreme although the worst leaves may shrivel and fall off.

Hope you're right. They were all hardened out for 10 days before transplanting into the containers but it has been windier in the last few days and the cold on Tues. morning may have given them a shock. Hopefully my assumption that this is disease related is unfounded. Thanks for your input. I hope others will chime in.

Their root systems are very small immediately following transplanting.

Because of the wind, the few roots weren't able to keep up with the top's demand for water.
To lessen the stress from the wind, the plants should have been protected temporarily against the windy conditions.

Dave, who posts as DigDirt is a long time member and expert tomato grower. As he said, this is enviornmental.

Very good to know. I will feel better when this goes away. Looks like the cold is behind us so perhaps so will be this problem. Thanks to Dave!
