I transplanted my tomatoes into containers on Sunday 4/21. They were looking better each day untill this morning. This developed overnight. I am using a potting mix with some fertilizer and it was suggested that I not add any for a week or so which I have not. I have kept them moist. We had a cool snap on Tuesday, down to around 40. Did not cover them and may have needed to but this looks disease-like. Any advice?

No photo attached but I assume from what you say you intended to add one? Can't tell what you are talking about without one. Dave

That's all exposure damage - wind, sun scorch, perhaps some cold exposure. Winds and sun can do that overnight, especially if the plant wasn't properly hardened off first. Usually they recover if the damage isn't extreme although the worst leaves may shrivel and fall off. Dave

Hope you're right. They were all hardened out for 10 days before transplanting into the containers but it has been windier in the last few days and the cold on Tues. morning may have given them a shock. Hopefully my assumption that this is disease related is unfounded. Thanks for your input. I hope others will chime in.

Their root systems are very small immediately following transplanting. Because of the wind, the few roots weren't able to keep up with the top's demand for water. To lessen the stress from the wind, the plants should have been protected temporarily against the windy conditions.

Very good to know. I will feel better when this goes away. Looks like the cold is behind us so perhaps so will be this problem. Thanks to Dave!
