Input on 'Jasper' cherry tomato?

Hi all,

I picked up a couple transplants of 'Jasper' (not 'Violet Jasper') at my local nursery. It had great reviews, especially for disease resistance, but id love to hear some "real life" input if any of you have grown it!

From a seed catalog...

"Jasper is very resistant to both early and late blight, as well as to races 1 and 2 of fusarium wilt. This makes it possible to grow in gardens where other cherry tomatoes may have been unsuccessful. And it's one less concern for the gardener!

And your harvest will never get out of hand with Jasper. The fruit holds on the vine very well, and also has a good shelf life after picking. This isn't a case of having to fill bags with extra tomatoes and dropping them off at the neighbors' doorstep! You'll be able to enjoy all your Jasper tomatoes in your own good time."

All those things may be true but I was not overly happy with my results from 20 plants last year. The tiny tomatoes are scattered here and there on the very vegetative plants making picking a time consuming ordeal. With other cherry varieties I can fill a gallon container in 5 minutes but it took me 20 minutes to get a gallon of the Jasper tomatoes. Many folks talk of plants growing 12-15 feet tall but I allow for enough stringling for 20 feet of growth and I had let all the stringline down by Sept. on this variety and they were still growing. That may see like a good thing but I doubt that my overall production per plant was half the weight of most other cherry types I grow. This year I'll grow a few again but I plan to isolate them so that I can manage the growth better.

Sorry I can't speak for the blight- didn't have issues with other plants either but I guess the resistance wouldn't hurt to have as insurance.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I definitely understand how massive growth is NOT a good thing. :) It is very helpful to know so I can plan accordingly!

I would say that a determining factor in choosing this tomato might be whether blight, especially late blight, is a problem in your area. Saw big, fancy 6-packs in a local nursery, in our area where late blight is only a remote possibity. Seemed sort of odd.
