| We often do a lot of talking, asking questions, complaining about pests, diseases, insects, ..., trying to help another fellow member by making comments. But how about just sowing some pictures of your plants, garden, et cetera ? A new growing season is upon us. Some of you in CALI , Florida, way down south are close to harvest. Some of us have just planted out and still a lot of members up North, Northeast are struggling with cold. But springs and summers ALWAYS come. So let us show some pictures, instead of talking. I will start myself. I just found my old Photobucket account, U/N, P/W and down loaded some pictures to be uploaded here. Lets see if it works. (1) Probably cherokee Purple
(2) Sungold ....the tag says
(3) Silvery Fir Tree .... my favorite so far
(4) Radiator Charlie Mortgage Lifter I bought it as a 6" plant about 3 weeks ago. It has already doubled in height
GREAT > It worked. |

| These are some of my friend's in SoCal. She is using just 3.5 gallon pots, but the little guys are pushing out fruit. Ping pong ball for scale. |

| Your garden looks great, seysonn. Neat, and healthy. You've seen mine, but left to right Super Sweet 100, Reisentraube, and Early Girl. The outer two are setting fair fruit, but the Reisentraube doesn't seem to like it here (or yet). |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| I'm running out of room in the house, have some plants started March 29 in 3.5" pots already, others just moved to individual cells in 6-packs (germinated multiples per cell). Only a few (not doing well, see other thread, I thought repotting might help) started April 6 have been separated but it's past time. Putting some of the leggier ones in 3.5" pots today. They'll have to stay in the house tonight (low of 37 expected early AM) but I hope to start hardening them off (bringing into garage at night the first few nights) this week. Looks like it may be possible to plant out around normal Mem. Day time but will have to keep an eye on the forecast. One shelf out of 10 (2 other shelves of peppers) - Black Krim start 3/29 in 3.5" pots, others started 4/6 still in original cells - will separate those this week and pamper them a bit before hardening off. |

| John, .. You are are doin fine. Already harvesting. It wont happen here till late June. As seen in my pictures , few have flowers. Hopefully they will turn into fruits. ajsmam, Glad to see your seedlings are coming along nicely. When will you be able to plant out ? In Southern Fairfield County they had a tradition of go ahead n plant after Mothers Day. I think further inland, to the north, there will be some difference. I remember, that Danbury, not to far away from the sound had different climate than say Norwalk, Westport As I said in another post, Don't doubt spring and summer, they will always come. Happy Gardening. |

| Well seysonn, it's the California trade-off. I have good weather, but only about 30 square feet! I see rows of tomatoes and think "imagine that!" |
RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014
| | |
| It took 10 weeks in the ground to get these "50 day" tomatoes. |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| I'm one of the north suckers. :D The white spots you is just baking soda spray that's dried up. |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| and here are my 3 months old plants. Black Sea Man tomatoes in the large pot |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Crappy phone camera, but here goes: Black Cherry (left) and Sungold (right) grown in the ground:
Celebrity in a container made from a broken shop vacuum:
Left to right: Lemon Boy, Indigo Rose and Patio:
Early Girl and Large Red Cherry (and cucumber and pepper). Thinking about moving at least one of them because of the grape vine foliage getting too dense.
Husky Red Cherry + Celebrity:
Not tomatoes, but cucumbers in containers under a trellis built around a unused pool slide:
The challenges with this yard are: 1) too much shade from surrounding trees (not all ours) and 2) a lot of the space is taken up by a pool and a concrete area. So, I am experimenting with different growing methods at different areas. |

| Everyone's 'maters are looking great! Too bad GW has deemed my photos "too big" to post. |
RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Not sure how well it is going to show up in the pic. Here is a pic of my biggest producer so far. Black Prince is going insane setting fruits. I stopped counting at a dozen. Others are catching up to that though. |

| Here are mine. Still inside! (LOL) Linda |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014
| | |
| Great picture Linda. Did they climb up there themselves? |
RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014
| | |
| Thanks John (G) Yes, they climbed up by themselves because they are SO desperate to get outside, and they won't believe me when I tell them how cold it gets overnight here! Linda |
RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014
| | |
I hope Linda's babies get out SOON. Spring is here and the old winter has no choice but to pack and leave. haha But in CALI and TEXAS I see some colors other than green. That is good. Push the warm aire ou way , guys! Our weather in PNW is spring - like. lingering from lows of 43 to highs to 62F. We might get a bubble now and then but still it is on the COOL side. I think , being out there for over a month, my plants should've figured it out that this is it, got to live with it. :D |
RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Don't laugh at my photos lol, but I had a rough start this year with several mishaps and now starting from this. And also had to improvize my methods The best phrase to say is that "I messed up seed starting with wrong mixes and wrong size cups ect...." In the photo which is my new start are Rampo's in pellets, along with 3 Black Krims and 5 Black Cherry's (they are to the right but not visible in the photo). The photo below is 1 ramapo that went in to good mix and the other an early girl that I bought from a hardware store. I plan on buying more seedlings soon if worse comes to worse. I may even take a drive to CC Nursary |

| Hi Mr. Beno , Sorry for the mishaps. I think it is a good idea to buy more plants from nurseries, not to miss the early start in the season. Surprisingly, lately they sell a lot good heirloom and hybrids in the BBSs. I bough 3 myself: STUPICE, RC MORTGAGE LIFTER and JAPANESE TRIFEL BLACK. They have a lot of good selection but I don't have the space. Hope thinks work out well for you from now on. |
RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| I am growing my shop-bought tomatoes (SunGold,Ferline,Shirley,Black Cherries) in cointeiners in south fancing conservatory. Also as a joke- i am "tomato newbie"- i started 15 pots (Valencia,Cuore di Bue,San Marzano) and i have 99% germination rate :-) |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| I saw this Cherokee Purple grafted tomato plant at a nursery yesterday and couldn't resist buying it! I love Cherokee Purple tomatoes and have been interested in trying grafted plants to see how they compare. The rest of our plants are off to a good start - this is a fun time of year!

| My tomato bed. Transplanted 5/3/14. This is about a month later than I normally plant. But every year my tomatoes get one disease or another and eventually succumb in mid summer. This year I am trying to eliminate as much stress on the plants as possible so I waited until the low temps were projected to be above 50*F. Eleven different varieties trying to see which plant lives the longest. |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Everybody is doing great. Good luck to all. Hudson, even growing such tomatoes, this early in greenhouse is a great accomplishment in WY. In my case, I just had to find a way to deal with VERY COOL and long spring weather. Even some 35 days after plant out, tonight's low will be 43F. But help is on the way. Next week will be in 70s and low 80s. So I hope the worst is over for us here in PNW. Next week I will take some fresh pictures. |

| It's May in Florida and we've been harvesting tomatos....(and spraying fungicide)... SunGold and Sweet 100 cherry tomatos Dixie Gold and Black Krim for color and taste and here's Tomande.....a regular in our garden...... dougandpam |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Ok here is one of the Bush Goliath. This started as one of the large transplants in the cage basket container. After my wife left it on the picnic table the 45 mph wind knocked it over, rolled it for quite a ways. It lost a good bit of roots. So I deep planted it with 4 inches of the stem in the ground. A hail storm knocked off a lot of set fruit. Now it has recovered quite well. You can see some fruit sticking out. There is way more than that hidden inside. I counted 8 more inside of it this morning. |

| This picture is from me picking up spares incase the others don't worked out. I never understood the Kung Foo cup holder from Saab but it worked out well today. The other one was in the center console next to my gear shifter lol... Rush hour sucked trying not to knock the plant while shifting..... What a season for me so far lol But the 2 that I posted before are doing well and almost ready to be planted..... I will post my otherphotos of the seedlings that I tried to germinate soon. But I think I got about 5 now with a few more to come. - Mr beno |

Alright Mr. Beno. That tomato got the ride of its life time, in the Saab.hehe. Hurry up and plant out that baby along with your other plants. Is it warm enough back there yet ?. Surprisingly today we had a summer-like weather ; high around 85F. Tomorrow will be even better but as of saturday mercury is doing to go south, like 62F. That is for high. But my tomatoes are doing fine. I measured them today. Some of them are close to 20" tall . Bloody butcher is setting fruits. But nothing, nowhere close to yours, Centex. You beat us by months. Well , I am so glad that little by little even our Yankee friend are planting out. Have a productive season, all across the land from ocean to ocean ! |

Heres mine.1 in front is a red beefsteak and the rest are big beef and parks whopper.Goliath is all the way in the back corner. Planted march 6th here in NW florida.Counted up green ones and they are averaging about 75 tomatoes per plant right now on the back plants,The front plants were planted at the end of march around april fools day and are a little smaller. |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Seysonn, 3 of them are planted to start, I put a red dot to show you the ones that were today. It was perfect temps and they were hardened off. In another 2-4 weeks I will do the rest. I also in the backround are the overwintered peppers which are coming around. But thte goal this year is to plant the maters in the 9 20- gal bags and a few in the dirt! It was a rought start but making it through! Greastest of Luck To all of you :) |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Here's mine as of May 18, 2014. They are all Beefsteak. NAR, Crustolee, Red Brandywine, Another type Brandywine, Kellogs Breakfast, Green Giant, Hillbilly, Black Krim, and some I forget, will hafta checks tags. They have fruit on them about the size of "Flattened Golf Balls"~~~see next post Gary |

RE: "Golf Tomatoes"
| | |
| Here's the maters on them. Kind of amazing as we had "Santa Ana Winds", 50 mph gusts and temps well over 100F Gary |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| I am kind of late to the chat, but wanted to show my little babies too. I am in west/central GA and the weather has been a bit odd of late. We had a few days where the temp was barely 50 and now back up to over 85. The picture is on my little garden at home (yes its in the front yard.) We have Rebel Yell, Black from Tula, Belarus Orange and Homestead in this garden. I have a 1 acre garden I share with my brother, out in the country,I will try to take pics next time I am out there. (Thats my husband in the picture for size comparison, he is 6 ft tall) |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

Welcome to the chat, Missy. Your plants are real nice and big. The tallest of mine is about 24". (bloody Butcher, sungols, Mortgage Lifter ..) The BB have goe though one set of flower cluster. I hope to see some tiny fruits soon. I took this picture just today. |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Few more pic. taken yesterday;
Silvery Fir Tree
Co planted some lettuce So far so good, considering that traditional plant out here is Mothers Day. But I did it 6 weeks early. |
RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Great pictures, everyone! My super sweet 100 continues to amaze. It only remains to be seen if things ripen in June Gloom. |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014
| | |
| My tomatoes are way behind schedule due to late cold snaps here in south-central Texas. Finally have some Stupice ripening up - not the tastiest variety, but I'm gonna enjoy every one! It will be at least a week before anything else is ready..... |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014
| | |
| super, John an melonhedd. John, that cherry is loaded. Meelonhedd, my Stupice is in full blood. I am counting days to see a tiny green tomato. Any day now. Probably my Bloody Butchers will be the first. No need to wish you guys good luck. You've already got it. EDIT: melonhedd, I noticed one of your tomatoes pecked, maybe by a bird ? I leave some water under/near the plants for birds, this way they drink the water and won't peck the maters. |

| Everyone's tomatoes are looking great. I am growing Black Krim, Sunny Boy, Mortgage Lifter, Steakhouse Hybrid, and SuperSauce Hybrid. The summer heat is heading my way though so I am in trouble. 95 degrees today. No time or money to purchase shade cloth. |

| First Lady II ... lots of fruit setting and first one picked yesterday! |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Yeah . That is great. I am tired of reading dying seedling and wilting plants. Your pictures are a picker upper here. Keep on keeping on. And don't forget to do some preventive fungal spraying. I use Neem oil spray, which is environmentally harmless. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure ! |
RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Here is a photo of one of my heirloom tomato plants, "bison" planted out on or around 5.1.14 :) super early but we were having great weather and I had back ups. I got them through some cold nights by wrapping the tomato cages in saran wrap with a cover over the top. |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014
| | |
Welcome , Aili. That Bison looks very strong and already setting fruits. Is it an EARLY variety? It pays to venture some times. Some of my early ones have fruits already. But I planted out 3 weeks earlier than you've done. Anyway, it is exciting, after all those long winter months germinating, growing under lights .. finally to see some flowers and fruits. |
RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Here is my PSR-37 which is an open pollenated sister line to the hybrid Early Girl. It has at least 30 tomatoes at present. I planted out late the middle of April and we too have been battling high heat and those Santa Ana winds! |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Here is an update for mine. I think so far so good. I even picked up a Mircle grow potting mix yesterday for $7 (2 C.U) it was on special this holiday weekend. Anyway the top picture is 3 early girls surrounded by a Ramapo, or should I say 3 Early Girls are eyeing him down :). I added a 3rd Early girl yesterday from the previous photo that I put on here. The bottom photo is more of my Ramapos from last years seeds along with a couple of Black Cherrys and not in the photo is the 2 Black Krims and a Yellow kelloggs Beef Steake that I will also plant out. I plan on hardening off the ones under lights within the next few days. I will probably just buy more MG mix for planting in the Bags. In the backround is are few overwintered Hot Pepeprs and last years hot peppers that will be replaced. |

RE: Your Tomato Pics- 2014

| Just a shot of some of my tomato's. These are in a rain gutter grow system and string trellised. |

| my first 2014 tomato on memorial day. I am excited. Will it be ripe by or before The Fourth of July? It is growing on one of my SILETZ plants. As seen, there are few more coming along a little behind. |
