Brandywines (pinks) generally dont start setting those flowers into fruit until a bit later in the season. They do have a reputation for lower fruit set with most, but not all who grow them. I have grown them in my hot climate and got decent fruit set before the heat shut them down.

Red Brandywine and Brandywine OTV both do better in heat than the pink ones. In fact, when I grew Red Brandywine it was a heavy producer.

Several years back I grew the Yellow Brandywine and it was an excellent producer, but my pink was only so-so.

This may not be true for everyone or for all of the Brandywine varieties, but you could look at the yield difference as a classic tradeoff between yield and flavor. With a vigorous hybrid you may get 20 or 50 fruits per plant that are pretty good, whereas each Brandywine plant might only produce a few or 10 really good fruits per plant. It does depend quite a bit on which strains you are growing and how the plants do with your growing conditions and climate, however.
