I waited too long to repot some seedlings. I had doubles growing in 2" pots, 6-8" tall, and fully hardened off. I was going to just nip the shorter of the two, but I changed my mind and decided I wanted to keep them all. So with a rrrrip, I separated the root mass and repotted them last night. Any idea how long I will have to wait to plant them outdoors? Does a week sound too soon?

If it were me and they were already hardened off I would go ahead and plant them out. Not much different than planting something that was root bound and had to be ripped apart. They may sit there for awhile but should take off again after a week or so. I should add as a provision that they still have a good amount of roots left after the separation.

Agree no reason not to plant if already well hardened. Bringing them back inside just defeats the hardening they already went through so at least keep them outside if they can't be transplanted ASAP. Dave

If you live in the Denver area keep them under cover or inside for the next couple/few days. I hope you didn't lose them yesterday that was some of the nastiest hail I've ever seen.

I live in Boulder. No hail here, so far. Thanks for the reminder about the weather over the next couple of days. I've got the seedlings on a covered porch where they should get some sun and wind, but hopefully no hail.

That's good. Glad you didn't have the luck I did yesterday. White out conditions and quarter sized hail stones it was nuts down here.

They don't seem to have minded the rrrrip. Very healthy. I like to give mine a re-potting rest for a week or so. But that is just being motherly, like sending a kid out on a rainy chilly morn without a coat. "tough it up kid, it will be warm and sunny in a few hours". Seeing a pic of healthy fellas, i would not hesitate to plant. Without a pic i would have visualized some sad lost forgotten starving seedlings that might have needed some adjustment time... (pics are so important)
