Yellowing leaves

Some of my tomato plants have their leaves turning yellow. The leaves that are turning yellow are on the lower leaves (real leaves). I started my seeds in organic mechanics seed starter and they did great. Then I move them to solo cups and used organic mechanics premium potting soil blend. They were doing fine. Then I started to harden them off a bit over the last week. Only 1-3 hours a day in high 60's/low 70's weather in dappled sun.

I read the forum for hours and yellowing seems to be the result of over watering. But I have 3 good size drainage holes I drilled into the cups. How can they be over watered with such good drainage? I was bottom watering mostly and top watering now and then. Please help.

Over-watering doesn't really relate to drain holes. :) You can still easily over-water them - and it sure looks like you are - just by keeping the soil in the cup wet all the time rather than letting it dry out some. You need to be sticking your finger deep into the cup to feel the soil at the root level before watering, not going by the surface condition.

Yellow lower leaves often indicate low nitrogen. If you haven't fertilized yet, or recently, consider doing so. And give those babies more light.

Thank you so much for the replies. Would Neptune's Harvest Fish and Seaweed blend be helpful at this point? Foliar feed?

And for the current yellow leaves.....do I leave them alone or cut them off?

If the soil dries out a bit can the yellow leaves turn back to green or no?

So they look like they are light deprived too?

No most won't return to green. You can remove them or they will eventually die and fall off.

They needed more light while growing - the leggy stems and long node lengths indicate that. Assuming you will be planting them out soon and will be burying them deeply so that all that bare stem is below ground they will be fine. If not then any way you can increase the lighting will help.

Do you use "Miracle Grow" potting mix?
