Baby Roma Tomatoes

I bought a packet of Livingston Seed Co's "Baby Roma" tomato seeds last year from a local store's seed rack and it ended up being a real favorite. I'll be growing it again this year, but I can find very little about it online. Is anyone else familiar with it? One website does list it as "aka Cherry Roma". Are these two names for the same variety? Thanks for any info you can provide.

RE: Baby Roma Tomatoes

Seed rack offerings often have made-up names on them, varieties that the supplier sells under one name on the racks and another name for direct sales.

The is very likely the case with this one as nothing I can find comes up anywhere on the various tomato databases under the name "Baby Roma" and the name appears to be tied only to Livingston. It could be a name they put on one of the many "grape-type" cherry tomatoes or it may be Cherry Roma. No way to know for sure. On the other hand Cherry Roma is sold by several reputable vendors under that name.

Livingston Seeds is a seed reseller, They buy seeds from others and repackage them for sale.

I googled both Cherry Roma and Baby Roma and wasn't going to post but it looks like Frieda's ,a commercial firm in CA has once again changed thename of a variety to indicate exlusivity calling it Baby Roma, how cute,

They are wholesalers and sell fruits and more to commercial places but not individuals, and no seeds are sold,''So go withCherry Roma being the well kown variety and seeds quite available

Thanks to you both for your information. I wondered if it was a "generic" name for Cherry Roma, and it sounds like might well be. It was labeled as an heirloom variety so maybe this will give me incentive to venture into seed saving to make sure I can continue to grow it.

Related: I have bough a tomato seedling from a nursry with a trad mark on the label reading: GROWE. They call it WINDOW BOX(dwarf) . I think they call it BABY ROMA(or someting like that) The label further say: IT IS DEVELOPED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON ..

It is about 8" tall right now.

Is this a new stuff? Is it hybrid ? The label does not specify.

If it said "developed by..." that is a pretty good clue that it is a hybrid.

And yes, seeds for F1 "Window Box Roma" are available from several suppliers so it's not new stuff.

GROWE is a non-profit foundation dedicated to teaching children about gardening and eating properly so I would assume that its name on the label means the sales were part of a fund-raiser.
