Anybody recognize this mystery tomato?

I'm wondering if anyone here can help me ID this mystery tomato? I thought I planted seeds from a packet of Arkansas Traveller seeds I got in a swap, but I'm pretty sure AT is supposed to have pink globes. This is a regular leaf, not very productive plant with these flat, lightly ribbed, black fruit with green shoulders. They're 2-3 oz.

Figuring either:

1) got mislabeled seeds in the trade
2) got cross-pollinated seeds in the trade
3) spaced and planted seeds from the wrong packet, or
4) spaced and mixed up the plants later ( but the only black tomatos I started were Nyagous and chocolate stripes, which I don't think this looks like either)

I'll be tasting it tonight- let you know how it is then, but I'm hoping someone has some idea what it is.

My best guess is a Cherokee Purple, but they are usually bigger.

Even with the green shoulders it could still be any one of 500 different varieties. There simply is no way to know.

Edweather, it's pretty different from the Cherokee Purple's I've grown - much much smaller and more dark brown rather than purple.

Dave, I'm sure that's true. Still, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask if something obvious came to anybody's mind.

julia: it's yours to name!

MIssing, Julia listed several reasons why it turned out to be NOT AT and if the one shown already is a known variety I don't think it would be good idea for Julia to give it another name.

Just my opinion.

Carolyn,
I think missingtheobvious was just kidding around.

Sometimes plant names seem to be as creative as the ridiculous names given to paint.

Perhaps kidding around, but I thinking of the many listings in the SSE annual Yearbooks where if someone can't remember the name of what they grew they come up with another name and yet the original one they grew in many cases was probably a known, already named variety.

Yes, perhaps I am being nit picky, as it were, but it really does bother me when some persons rename varieties.

With your experience you have the right to be as nit picky as you choose. I do mean this with all due respect.

My point was that even if 150 people swear up and down that the tomato in the picture is Harvey's Hamapple and that they have tomatoes that look exactly like it, there is no way to ever know for sure. It can't be proven so it can't be labeled or traded under any name.

We have all had it happen to us, whatever the cause, and all you can do is forget about finding a name for it if there is one and enjoy it or toss it.

Really, I'm not trying to label it or trade it or anything. I just thought it was interesting and I was curious...

It was pretty tasty, by the way.

Carol is right people forget the name, and rename crating more varieties which are really the same . Another thing people do is grow abunch of toms and they harvest toms 5 days before the DTM so they think they have improved the original Tom ,so they rename it ,Some are just vain and dont get enough attention and rename a variety in their name or a friends or loved one name. Some get seeds from another country or region and do the same.
