Growing Tomatoes

old straw under tomatoes?

I usually buy new straw for under my tomatoes. it really has cut down on the tomatoes getting diseases from the soil splashing up.
I have 2 old bales from last year. They have been out in the weather. Is there any reason I shouldn't use them, but rather buy new ones?
