Planning Next Year's Toms Already?

I know it's only spring still but is anyone else already rethinking things for next year? I have 36 tomato plants & gave it all a lot of thought over the winter but didn't plan on there being a big difference between the early & mid/late varieties. Therefore, of all my plants I only have 2 early varieties planted, most are late varieties. So, now in our current cool weather, all my plants are growing well & have tons of blossoms but the only ones setting fruit are my cherry varieties & my 2 early varieties. What I wouldn't give for a little better planning & a couple more early varieties. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20 & there's always next year! In the meantime I'll keep waiting for warmer weather.

Of course. My plants are still in the house, but that doesn't stop me from thinking about next year. Betsy

Not thinking of next year yet. I like to do that over the winter when I cannot garden. |

I know I'll probably start pulling a couple plants in the next week or two, so I'm definitely making notes for next year. I've just about given up on heirlooms except for Cherokee Purple. Their production is too low to continue wasting precious garden space.

I just recieved Tomato seeds (4 kinds) in the mail from a generous gardener. Thannks! So that would be a YES

We just finished planting our zone 4 garden and I spent a bit of time this afternoon looking over the catalogs making notes about next years garden.

Yes, of course. Only a few from this year have impressed me enough to make the cut for next year.

Of course. I got a late start this year and completely missed the bulk of my spring crops. I've got a stack of seed catalogs that have so many highlighter marks on them that it looks like they forgot to print them on white paper. I will probably end up doubling the number of varieties of tomato I'm growing from this year to the next, and I haven't even revised the list to replace any that I don't like this year, at the moment I plan on them making a comeback. I do intend to try a few more hot weather varieties this time around, but I'll probably revise the list several times between now and December....

Well I've made some rough choices from my previous 2 years and will reduce down from 35 different plants to 28 plants with only 14 varities and 2 plants of each. 2 yellow, 2 gold, 2 Green When Ripe, 2 Red, 2 Pink, Cherries SunGold, Black Cherry, Super Snow White, Matts Wild Cherry. So It will be 2 Toms Yellow Wonder 2 Casey's Pure Yellow 2 KBX 2 MINIE PIN Stripe 2 Big Beef 2 Italian Heirloom 2 Stump of the World 2 Jap Barlow 2 Cherokee Green 2 Dwarf SummerTime Green 2 Matt's Wild Cherry 2 Sun Gold 2 Black Cherry 2 Super Snow White

I didn't start any plants from seed this year, so I don't have much new in the way of tomatoes. For next year,I am thinking about some comparisons of small to medium-sized tomatoes in our hot climate. Moravsky Div sounds great to start off the year, but I'm not sure what I want to compare it to. I also want to try Bulgarian Triumph, partly just because I like the name. I thought I'd compare some Southern-style pink tomatoes. Maybe Traveler 76, Bradley, Burgundy Traveler and Pale Perfect Purple. I had fun with AAA Sweet Solano last year. Thought I'd compare it to Little Lucky next year (though their colors are not all that similar, and I don't expect that their textures will be, either). And then there are the first commercial offerings from the Dwarf Tomato Project. So interesting. I'll probably come up with a few other ideas as I read through this forum.
