Crispy leaf edges

I've planted all my toms for the year but have a bunch of extras I started that I'm starting to distribute to friends.

I've noticed a few are starting to get "crispy" leaf edges where the edges turn brown. They're still in solo cups so I'm thinking root bound and drying out a bit too much between waterings? They've all been hardened off now so I don't think it's sunburn.

Trying to decide if I should just get them passed out to folks I'm giving them to quick as possible or repot them into 1 gallon containers before I do. I have several that were repotted in 1g containers already and none of them are having this issue.

Rootbound is one possible explanation but so is excess N which can crisp leaf edges.. Either way the plants should recover just fine once transplanted - either to bigger containers or into the ground.
