Co-planting tomatoes with peas?

I have a raised bed that for some reason is very productive (my other ones are still a work in progress). I've had some success growing tomatoes in it the past couple of years and decided this year to give it a rest and plant peas. They've likewise done very well and most of my weeding has been pulling up tomato volunteers that escaped my fall clean up last year. There is one tomato sprout that popped up right in the middle of them and has completely taken off. I decided to leave it alone and will see if it survives until the pea plants die off in July. It seems like a good match and made me wonder if anybody did this kind of companion planting?
