Broke a tomato plant stem, will it heal?

I accidently partially broke a part of my cherry tomatoe plant. I would say about 80% of the way through. Still attached to the plant but won't stand on its own. Of course it's got a ton of flowers on it. Not willing to give up on potential cherry tomatoes I rigged up a split from string and a toothpick and pushe the broken part back together. Does anyone know if the plant will heal and turn the flowers to fruit or is it a lost cause and a waste of plant energy? Thanks
