Broke a tomato plant stem, will it heal?

I accidently partially broke a part of my cherry tomatoe plant. I would say about 80% of the way through. Still attached to the plant but won't stand on its own. Of course it's got a ton of flowers on it. Not willing to give up on potential cherry tomatoes I rigged up a split from string and a toothpick and pushe the broken part back together. Does anyone know if the plant will heal and turn the flowers to fruit or is it a lost cause and a waste of plant energy? Thanks

No way to know what will happen, but if it were me I'd wrap some tape over the splint and find some way to support it from below so it doesn't bend.

You could try to prop it up with some sticks and hope that your splint will hold. Perhaps some masking tape might hold it all together.

If that doesn't work, you can salvage cuttings from the top part, as tomatoes root really easily.

Good luck!

Thanks for replies so fast. I was debating using masking tape but didn't know if it would harm the plant. I'll add it as reinforcement. It's a pretty solid splint, I over engineered it, but can't hurt to add tape for extra support. I was just wondering if the plant would physically heal up, but guess only time will tell. Thanks again

You should know pretty quick if you saved it or not. If the growth above the break continues to grow then you are fine if it wilts and dies the break was too severe. Happens pretty fast if the top part of the plant is not getting moisture and nutrients. I would tape it up and hope for the best.

I would use some fabric ( like cheese cloth ) instead things like masking tape.

i recently broke 2 plants
a jackfruit seedling, and a passionflower vine.

both were near the base.
i used duck tape, and both grew back strong as ever, with a bulge where the break was.

i dont see why a tomato would be different
if anything, tomatoes would be more forgiving than a tropical fruit.

it did seem to take th passionfruit a couple of weeks with no growth, but that could have been due to weather as well...
