Deformed fruit starting

What in the world is causing this? This is a ground-planted Sun Sugar. The plant is vigorous but the fruit is hideously deformed and probably won't develop (that's my guess).
Could this be some residual soil contaminant? Would some Roundup that carried over in a breeze cause this?
So far the maters in the planter boxes have shown no signs of trouble and even the other plant in the ground next to it seems OK.
I'm stumped (and a little worried).
