Deformed fruit starting

What in the world is causing this? This is a ground-planted Sun Sugar. The plant is vigorous but the fruit is hideously deformed and probably won't develop (that's my guess).

Could this be some residual soil contaminant? Would some Roundup that carried over in a breeze cause this?

So far the maters in the planter boxes have shown no signs of trouble and even the other plant in the ground next to it seems OK.

I'm stumped (and a little worried).

Are you sure this is a tomato and not some weed? Got a shot of the whole plant?

Whatever it is, it's been affected by herbicide, via drift, or via carryover herbicide in organic matter/mulch/manure/potting mix.

Agree that it is herbicide contamination but is it just this one cluster/branch or the whole plant that is affected.

If it is the whole plant then, like the other discussions here indicate, all you can do is wait. If it is just this pictured cluster, which is possible, just cut it off the plant.

It's all over. I'll take a pic of the whole plant. Bummer...the plant is big.

Looks like 2-4D damage as opposed to Roundup.

It looks like something from Dr. Frankenstein lab :-)
