Bear Creek?

I have 2 Bear Creek plants this year. New to me variety and have no idea what to expect. Anybody out there have any experience with this variety? I read up on it on Tatiana's Tomato Base so I at least know it is a purple beefsteak-type. Is it a normally huge plant or am I safe with my 5' T-Post? When I received my seedlings these were bigger than my Estler's MLs, but after 5 weeks, my EMLs are about 1-1/2 times the Bear Creek plants' size. How tolerant is it of the common tomato ailments and pests?
Thanks for any info.

Edie

It is an indeterminate variety so IME no, a 5' T post wouldn't be tall enough but you can always tie wrap an additional stake to it for more height if you wish. All depends on if you prune it or not. The more you prune, the taller it gets. It worked in my 6' cages as it just drapes back down over the outside of the cage with problem.

There are no "pest tolerant" varieties. :) As for diseases, like all other varieties, it has no real resistance to any of the most common tomato plant diseases. While some hybrids have been bred for increased tolerance of some diseases, actual resistance is minimal even in hybrids.

Hope this helps.

Rutgers doesn't list Bear Creek; nor does the Cultivar Finder which can't be linked to. Ventmarin has a listing for Bear Creek but doesn't give any info about it. And those are the only databases I know which (sometimes) list height.

OK, thanks! I know there's no such thing as disease or pest proof but it seems that every year we have one variety or another that is worse than the others for catching every disease known to man (well, not really but you know what I mean LOL!) So I will just have to wait and see. And have a couple of extra height-extenders handy just in case. Another adventure!!

Bear Creek was bred by Keith Mueller, who has bred many wonderful varieties.

The link below gives some background on Bear Creek a as well as his others and also what he's working on now.
