Hey all, Does anyone know if this is a concern, I found this on the bottom leaves of my "Early girl plants". The rest of the plants seems to be great, but just the bottom. The plants are in MG Potting Mix and I have fertilized them with MG Water Solubale at 1/2-3/4 strength every week since transplanted. Thanks in advanced Mr Beno Edit: They are also in 20 Gal smart pots filled about 3/4, also it is on 3 of 4 them I think

Thanks again Seysonn, Here is a side view of the initial 4 plants and there health status from above the bottom, I knew not to worry but just incase I wanted to double check. Because my neighbor to the right was doing work this past week on his house. I will remove them leaves today on them. Now today he is powerwashing, just hoping no chemicles and such are used if he does more. And the neighbors behind me are painting their fences today as I just last checked... Gona be a fun day, thank God I got back ups just incase... (Each neighbor is aprox 20 feet aways from them maters).

You said the bottom leaves of your Early Girl had spots. But it wasn't clear to me when you said your other plants look great, but just the bottom. So are you saying that ALL of your plants have spots on the lower leaves, and I ask b'c that makes a difference in at least my mind. I'm' also assuming that those other plants are most likely varieties other than Early Girl F1. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And all of your containers have fresh MG mix which you've never used before? Carolyn Carolyn |

I aplolagize Carolyn, I just read the text and it was a typo, I meant to say only the very bottom leaves had them spots on the "Early Girls" and possibly the Ramapo F-1 which I forgot to mention. I bought the 3 Early Girls from "Ace" and the tag was from Burpee. So I think they could be F-1, the other plant was the Ramapo F-1 which I started from seed (from last years seeds). And I think it may of had the same marks I will double check this evening. I am just waiting for the neighbors to finish up their house/garden work so I can double check. As far as the mix, the 4 plants were all in brand new MG Potting Mix. The first bag was the green one, and the other three were in yellow bags. I know it sounds different but I think MG started a new branding color or something lol. Also to note one of the early girls was in about 70% mixture of MG potting mix and last years 5-1-1 mix and I added about 1/4 cup of Lime. I am not sure which one though, but I believe it was the right one in the last photo in my last post. I apolagize for the confusion and thanks again for the help from you and Seysonn and who ever else resonds. - Mr Beno

Looks like Gray Leaf Spot to me and if it is on 3 of the 4 plants it is spreading. Remove all affected foliage and begin a regular fungicide spraying program to help control it. Google the disease by name for lots of photos to compare to your plants. Dave

Thanks Again, I looked very carefully and noticed on the bottom from of 1 (Ramapo) and the other the Early Girl The bottom branches were breaking in the smart pots. I think what happened (But i am no expert) is that they were getting heavy. I Also Pruned all of the bottom stems that were below the (20 Gal) smart pot that was filled about 3/4. The next photo shows my new alternative caging and part of my fallen leaves. Thanks again all for the help! And I will update the status. ( I did also take a vid but too tired to post it now but will in the futre). - Mr Beno

For container growers....it is critical NOT to use MG "moisture control" potting mix. It holds way to much water and creates muck near the bottom of the container. Most tomato growers prune lower leaves to avoid all the dreaded fungal/bacterial issues which are so common to maters. Remove damaged/diseased leaves at bottom, and spray.
