tomato plant broke... any hope?

I got an unidentified variety of tomato plant from my local garden center and it had been unstaked for a while so the stem was curved to the ground. When I went to pull it up to attach it to a stake, I apparently wasn't as gentle as I thought and the stem snapped clean off. There's about three inches of plant in the ground, but the majority of the plant (appx 10") is now sitting in a cup of water.

I imagine that the part in the ground will be fine, but is there any way to save the part that broke off? Is there a way to get the stem to grow roots?

Thanks for any help!!
