Today I discovered the start of some Curled Leaves towards the top of a Ramapo F-1. I have 2 other Ramapos growing in a 5-1-1 mix in 20 gal Hydrofarm Fabric containers and 1 in the ground and they seem fine. I also have 2 (4th of July') that seem fine as well. Now we have gotten a lot of rain in the past 3 days 4" one day and yesterday about 2 inches. The plant was planted around May 20th. I only fertilzed them 2x's so far with 1/4 strength of Miracle grow liquid tomato food. And should of been fertilized yesterday but I did not because of the rain. Now this plant's location gets about an 1-2 less hours of sun from the others. So aprox 7-8 hours. The fabric container also sits an the bottom of a slope where the ground is all soggy. The other's are up higher. Does anyone know if this is a strong concern and what could be happening? Thanks all, -Mr Beno

Too much rain. Just wait for it to dry out.

Thanks aisma for the response, I got scared when I saw the change. I would love for them to dry out as I checked the weather and another 1-2 inches of rain tomorrow. - Mr Beno

Yeah, we're supposed to get 3" here and more on Friday (with wind gusts up to 49mph). Don't be surprised if those leaves turn leathery and dry - it's still too much water, don't water the plant.

Yeah nasty stuff heading our way. And now I think I made the decision to move them under my upper deck, I got 4 in fabric containers. The only bad thing is that I can't get out my back door easily because it is not a large area but "I'll do it for the maters" I pray for my in-ground ones. I guess on the bright side if anything happens, I have ready back ups and another round of fresh backups that should be ready in late june to be planted if all else fails. Thanks again, - Mr Beno

Hi Mr. Beno, Growing some in containers was an excellent decision this year. They will do fine......almost impossible to overwater, and they will keep draining well with only minimal problems.

I have found out(could be wrong) that curling leave is due to cool temperatures. It is a way to minimize surface exposure to cold: less exposure = less heat loss. I cannot understand why a leaf would curl because of too much water?!
