As to the pruning, rather than rehash all the pros and cons on pruning, I hope you don't mind that I linked you to the FAQ here on it and many of the other current discussions about it.

Personally, like many here, I don't believe in pruning tomato plants since it isn't required, stresses the plant, and reduces production. But the choice is yours of course.

Thanks for the response. As for the pros and cons, I'm doing this because I'm in a square foot garden with 1 square foot for the tomato (that won't support more than 1 vine as far as I can tell). Let's try that image again. Should now be available as a link.

Ahh the old fused stem issue - the two (maybe 3 in this case) stems actually fuse into one.. It happens with some varieties and FAIK seems to be tied to weather at the developmental stage.

I suppose you could snip off the smaller one on the left right where they split if necessary. I'd leave the bloom truss attached to the rest.

But for future ref. most SQ FT. gardeners recommend a minimum of 2 sq.' per tomato plant and many recommend 3 sq. foot. Means less plants of course but far more production and easier to stake/maintain as they don't get nearly as tall as single stem ones do..

Thanks Dave. I left the flowering bits (bloom truss?), and instead of snipping the entire left vine, I clipped off the growing bits on the left side, keeping some leaves - the wound was smaller this way.

Talking about fused: My Brandy wine has a fused flower. The end of that flower stem itself is fuse to the main stem. n other words, it has not grow from a leaf node. I remember seeing a similar thing about 4 years ago on a Black Krim or Cherokee Purple.
