Growing Tomatoes

Heat, Snails, Rain stop!

My poor tomatoes, is it feasible to try to keep my Big Boys alive until cooler weather? What to do about snails? With rain every day for the past week and the sun not out my poor tomato plants are suffering...split tomatoes, sad looking plants. Oh one more question...new growth from the bottom of the plant looks good, should I prune the sickly parts?

With the snails: pick them manually or use things like Get Bugga, slugo...
With the rain: you can cover them .

with the heat: there is noting you can do, I suppose. There is no way to air-condition the garden.

It's my understanding that in South Florida tomatoes are grown over the winter. My mom is in southern Palm Beach Co. and that's what she does. In the summer the humidity is too high there, and your night time temps are too warm for fruit set.
