 o
Cherokee purple- no blooms

I planted two Cherokee purple and two Juliette plum tomato seedlings in Earth boxes, right next to each other. The plum tomatoes have been producing a good yield for a couple of weeks now. The Cherokee purples haven't even shown a bloom, although the plants themselves are big and healthy-looking.
Are they normally late bloomers compared with the plum tomatoes? Or is something wrong?

Unless you are giving them high nitrogen fertilizer, I wouldn't worry if they aren't blooming yet. If they are otherwise healthy, it's probably just a time thing. For a lot of people, the heirlooms aren't as productive as the hybrids. I've never grown Juliet, but I have heard about its prolific tendencies. There's at least one person on this forum who thinks the fruit is more suited for use in batting practice than for eating, lol.

I agree with Donna. As long as the soil mix is balanced, it's probably timing. My Cherokee purples have tons of fruit and blooms, but my Green Zebra didn't for a long time. Now, my GZ is all of a sudden starting to show a whole bunch of flowers. Oh, and nitrogen is not good before the first fruit set usually, indeed...

OK, I guess I'll just wait and see, then.
As for the Juliette tomatoes, I probably won't plant them again. The fruit isn't bad, but it isn't that great either.
Thanks.
