Not sure how to proceed

Somebody gave me these plants-I don't know what kind exactly but he told me they were "cherry tomato" plants.

Anyway, I'm looking to grow these tomatoes in a 5 gallon bucket but I need to know, do I transplant the whole thing or should I cut down all except 1? You can see in the picture that there are quite a few stems growing within close proximity.

Thanks ahead of time!

I would plant only 1, Other wise it would be too crowded.

Thanks for the reply,
Would chopping them down be sufficient or do I need to remove the roots as well?

Cutting them off at soil level will suffice.

Great, thanks to you too.

Maybe leave 2 for a little while just to make sure at least 1 survives and no accidents happen. You can always cull the other one in a week or so.

Now that you have them, leave 2, (furthest apart in the clump). I am experimenting with double planting. I think 2 of them together may be able to produce as much as a single. But more than two will be crowd. Double planting is quite common in cucumbers, melons and tomatoes cousin potatoes. The difficulty here is managing the top. With good cage and staking that can be handled.
