Truss size

So what factors influence truss size the most? This year I have several plants (growing in 5 gallon pots) with absolutely huge trusses (at least according to my past experiences). The two in particular are Kosovo and Pink Brandywine. One of the Kosovo trusses has two growing tips eventually coming off it.

This year I'm using Miracle Grow potting mix. I'm also pruning virtually all the suckers to keep them to a single stem. I'm curious what factors (pruning, fertilizer ratios) might impact the number of fruits per truss, and I'm wondering if I'm going to compromise the size/quality too much by letting all the pollinated flowers develop. I hate to lose fruit by thinning the truss, but I also don't want 20 golf ball sized Kosovos that aren't very good. I also assume that the growing tips coming off the truss are going to sap a lot of energy that could go into the fruit.

See the pics. In the first one, that's all one giant truss, including 2 tips marked.
