Growing Tomatoes

tomato spikes w/drip system

Being on the edge of the hot Sacramento valley, I have to keep my watering very consistant. I have now installed a drip system to hopefully do so. I don't want to do any overhead watering at all so now I am wondering how effective tomato spikes would be with the drip system providing midseason mutrients. I mixed with compost when planting. Good idea....bad idea????

Or maybe a better/simplier question would be "are tomato spikes any good? (worthwhile?)
