Over fertilized grow boxes with Tomato Tone

I really over did it on my tomatoes the other day. I pruned heavily, sprayed horticultural oil for aphids and top dressed at the base of plants with Tomato Tone - and used too much TT. Today some of the leaves are black around the outside edges. From all that I have researched and reasoned (brought that piece to the process a bit late!) it is over fertilization. Prior week I did a foliage application of Sea Magic from Burpee and a light Miracle Grow application. My question is this. Will the damage just grow out if left alone? It does not look like many leaves but it has only been about 36 hours.

Probably will need to wait & see. If they were in a container w/ drainholes, you could leach heavily.

Thanks. I've debated that. But I'm afraid of over watering too. I am in the Boston area and we got over 10 inches of rain in June. If anyone has any input on how long it takes for damage to peak & hopefully start to recover it would be appreciated. The plants still look great despite my full on assault. I have about 10 bad leaves per plant on about 4 out of 30 plants.

Is it possible you burned the leaves with hort oil? Potentially, sun and oil makes for a nasty burn.

If there's still some TT sitting on top of the soil, you can scoop out the first inch or two, then replace it with unfertilized potting mix. Just be careful not to shred the roots near the stem. Afterwards, and as mentioned prior, you can also flush the container till a decent amount of water leaches out of the bottom. If you're concerned with overwatering then perhaps *temporarily* cover the potting mix so most of the rain rolls down the sides. Monet may be right about sun + oil.

If you added Tomato Tone a day or two ago, it is unlikely it is the cause of your problem. Organic fertilizers take time to break down to a point that they can be absorbed by the plant.

Agree w/ above. Not the TT. I'm guessing your plant will recover. I'd leave the fertilizer, maybe just spread it around a little so it's not too concentrated. Containered plants need lots of fertilizer especially with all the rain lately. 10 bad leaves on 4 of 30 plants sounds manageable.
