Poor results this year in UK?

A very peculiar year for tomatoes here just north of London. Unusually, the winter dragged on until mid-April but since then it's been fine and the last 2 weeks has been a heat wave.

So what's happened to the tomatoes? This time last year they were 3 times the height in the same spot, growing up wires not just string, with plenty of flowers and well-formed fruit. This year, just two tiny pebbles from 5 plants. For sake of comparison, the freezer bag in the piccie is just one of a dozen I froze from last year's glut. Pizzaiola sauce shall be my consolation with dinner tonight!

A friend reports the same. Is this general in the UK this year?

What variety are you growing?

Maybe now is the time to pop some fertilizer on them.

Linda, I'm growing Gardener's Delight, always reliable, and Ferline, my favourite and absolutely delicious. This year, well, if you ignore the ivy behind the second tomato, you can see how scrawny they are.
I havent fed them for a couple of weeks but I'll try when I water them tonight, as you suggest.
Kind regards,
Devi
