Disease on leaves

I was given a little tomato plant and planted it in a spot far away from my other tomatoes - thank goodness.

About a week ago, I noticed a little speckling on some lower leaves, so I removed them thinking it was probably Early Blight or Septoria. Since then we've had a lot of showers.

This morning, the underside of the leaves look as if someone has thrown some peat or fine soil at it, and it has stuck to the leaves. It's the same on the top of the leaves, but easier to see on the undersides in the dew. The whole plant is covered from top to bottom.

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I could get some pictures later.

Thanks in advance for any ideas,
Linda

My pictures didn't turn out very well, but here's a picture of one leaf.

Photo is out of focus but from what I can see, it looks like nutrient deficiencies to me (magnesium, maybe phosphorous). Low temperatures and very wet soil can inhibit nutrient uptake. You've said you've had a lot of showers which can lead to that. It's also common when night temperatures go down to the 50 area.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, once the weather gets better and the soil dries out, the plant should keep growing normally. There is no need to remove those leaves yet, you can remove them later, once the plant is fully established.

Cheers,
Djole

All the brown areas are between veins.
I suspect environmental stress.

How long has it been in the garden?
What size was the pot? The plant?
How do you decide when to water?
How often do you water?
How much water do you give it?

Jean 001a asks:

How long has it been in the garden?
A month

What size was the pot? The plant?
A 4" pot. Plant was one foot tall.

How often do you water?
When the soil is dry.

How much water do you give it?
Water from watering can (without a rose) and count to three.

I agree that it was a bit stressed from the get go.

Thanks,
Linda

Ir's probably running out of water fater than you think because it's still operating on what is essentially a small rootball from the 4-inch pot.

Perhaps temporary shade will help.

Thanks. I can try that.
