I'd have a go at digging them out. Could you take out every other one? Then I would relocate, shade them, and keep them well-watered.

An alternative would be to take some cuttings and root in water, although that would slow them down a lot. Something to think about though for any that you might damage. Tomato cuttings root really quickly in water.

I had good luck this year transplanting tomatoes that were growing too close together. They grow like weeds here.

Never too late to transplant if you can take a large rootball with it, IMHO.

The neigbor just moved some of his large container tomatoes into the ground. Then the deer ate all these whole plants!

OK, I moved plants around and gave most of them away and they all survived. Yay. Thanks everyone! And @robertz6 - so sorry about those plants!
