Hello, I asked on the disease forum as well, but it appears to have low traffic. I have a bunch of tomatoes that grew overly vigorously. Now, they have a bunch of lower branches suddenly wilting green as if they don't have water -- about 35% defoliation over a week. I see a little bit of early blight sitting around. I Also see a few small black spots and smudges along the stems of all plants. And, I see a little bit of white mold growing on top of the soil. The weather has been low 80s in the day, with heavy marine layer in the morning. 60% humidity generally. Theories on this? Note that the plants have been healthy for about 2 months, and I added a few flowers to the bed 3 weeks ago -- wondering if I contaminated the bed with something when I did that. The flowers are very different types of plants from the tomato.

Tomato russet mite can be introduced on certain flowers, I think petunias are a common one. They are not visable to the naked eye but will cause green branches to wilt. If you google it you will get good info and pix.

Lower branches wilting can often be due to insufficient amount of moisture in the soil. Companion planting should not pose a problem as long as you provide enough food and drink.
