If you wait until 1st blush to pick they'll ripen just fine on your countertop. Picking a green one like that will probably result in a fruit lacking much flavor.

Agree. Picking at blush or color break is one thing. Picking when fully green is something else entirely.

Lycopene development is triggered at break but hasn't yet been triggered in a fully green fruit so when and if it finally does ripen the flavor (especially the brix) and texture will be substantially affected..

A lesson learned. Patience always pays off in the end. :)

I have been growing Ramapo F1 tomatoes for the last 3 years. It is my favorite hybrid and just about my favorite tom all together. I'm in western PA and don't expect ripe Ramapo tomatoes till at least mid August. Don't rush it. They will ripen on the vine in a month or so. Ripe tomatoes usually signal the end of summer but they will continue to produce into October. Picking them when completely green does not hasten ripening.

Yeah I guess drinking and gardening don't mix. :) I thought it was blushing a little but it wasn't. Thanks all for the info. I am just worried about the birds sitting on the fence staring at them.

I too have picked tomatoes thinking they were blushing only to find that they were not. Either just wait for it or slice it up and have some fried green tomato slices. It's all good.

ok I saw 2-3 tomatoes start to turn color, should I leave them on or wait a little you can see the rest that are still greenish.

I just hope them birds don't get to them, I told my cat to keep a look out and meow 3 times if he sees anything funny happening.

If you don't have any predators you could leave them. But they will ripen just fine on the counter and taste good too.

Thanks Ed, I did notoce beak marks i think, they tried to get in or it could of been caused by the sun. Anyway I pulled 2 more off and I put a "group photo" of the original one with the 2 new "Ramapo's" from today and yesterday. The original one is on the bottom right. The bright green one was a stupid mistake that I pulled off 2 weeks ago. The other small ones are the "4th of July Hybrid" that is growing in ground.
