Hello there,

I am a beginner gardener and just recently stared with some tomatos. I bought the plant from a neighbor and there are already tomatos on them :) So exciting!!

However, I realize the water comes out the of drainage is oily and stinky.. It attract flies too..

Please help!! I try to learn out the water reservoir but new water comes out of it is still stinky... tomatos goods pretty good though. I already have some new flowers coming out and the little tomatos came with the planter are doing well too....

I hope the roots are fine... any tips?

what kind of soil mix is it ? You may need to replant into clean mix.

Yeah you need to ask the neighbor what they put in the pot for planting to know what is causing it. It sounds like they may have added some manure to the mix. Some do that.

It won't hurt the tomatoes but if it is attracting flies that can be a pain. Are they regular house flies or small gnats, what are called fungus gnats?
