spotted and cracked tomatoes: safe to eat?

Posted by mkgringo (My Page) on

A bunch of my tomatoes have spots on them in some places. They look like little brown freckles.

Also, there are a bunch that have "cracks" in them.

Should I just cut around the cracks and spots?

Is the rest of the tomato fine to eat?

I shouldn't comment on the brown freckles, but the cracks are no big worry. I've bought tomatoes with worse cracks. I'm sure I'd eat the one pictured, freckles and all, no questions asked.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.....
I don't care about spots on my apples just give me the birds and the bees......... (from old 60's hippie song)

They are fine to eat spots, cracks and all!! Enjoy!!

Nothing wrong with those tomatoes at all. Seriously, those are near perfect tomatoes and there is no reason why they can't be eaten and enjoyed.

I have eaten some seriously hideous tomatoes and wouldn't even blink at the one in your picture.
